All the right gear including the heavy boots that are an essential item for Antarctic expedition travelers are often a one-time purchase and add inconvenience, environmental waste and expense to travel. Waterproof pants are also essential. Trekking Poles provide stability while ashore in Antarctica.

Rentals are delivered to and picked up from the ship.
Antarctica Direct (Fly Sail) voyages (NG ORION / NG EXPLORER) - delivered to and picked up from the hotel in Puerto Natales, Chile.
Check the rental "order by" deadline.
We recommend placing your order no less than 30 days before sailing
Orders 29 - 15 days before sailing accepted but limited sizes are available
Orders 14 - 10 days: may be possible through contacting Customer Care - not guaranteed.
Orders 9 days or less: sorry, rentals not possible.
Rental period is per cruise. For back-to-back cruise rentals please contact us to arrange to keep the rentals for the full duration. Rental fees per cruise will be charged.
If your intinerary includes South Georgia and/or the South Sandwich Islands, due to biosecurity measures your boots size will be recalculated based on a unisex boot with a sole that has been approved for this area and Velcro-free pants will be substituted and sizes recalculated. You don't need to do anything. This is advance notice so you can be reassured that you have the right boots and pants for this region and that the size may be different from the size that you selected.

Damage Deposit

Damage Fee(s) will be applied to the credit card used to rent gear. If any of the gear is not returned or returned damaged the following rates apply: Boots: US$100, Pants: US$60, Poles: US$70, Stretch Package: US$100, Gloves: US$50, Explorers Hat: US$40, Neck Gaiter: US$20

Rentals Cancellation Policy

Cancellation before the "order by deadline": full refund
Cancellation after the "order by deadline": no rental refund
Check the QUICK REFERENCE GUIDE *under GEAR RESOURCES for the "order by deadline"
No refund - for any/all rental items after they have been delivered to the ship, even if they have not been used/unopened/returned to staff.: no rental refund
No refund - If your trip is interrupted or cancelled for any reason after the order by deadline, we highly encourage that you contact your travel insurance provider to recover the rental fees.

About Boots

Though essential for wading in icy waters during Zodiac landings, the proper boots are bulky and weigh between 4.5 lbs / 2.5 kgs to 6 pounds / 2.73 kgs. By renting boots, you are guaranteed to have the best boot to stay warm and dry in Antarctica, while gaining space in your luggage.
